Brisbane has so much to offer... here are just a few suggestions:
- Have an excellent breakfast at either of the coffee shops right outside the building (I have heard the $4 brekkie sandwich right next door is amazing)
- Spend a couple of hours wandering through Roma St Parklands (an easy 10 minute walk from the apartment thru Roma St train station)
- Visit Brisbane City Hall and Museum of Brisbane, and hang out in King George Square (there's usually something going on )
- Visit the Wednesday street markets at Brisbane Square for lunch and experience amazing international cuisine (outside Treasury Casino)
- Head across Kurilpa Bridge (the pedestrian bridge outside the building) to the cultural and theatre district. There you can wander through GOMA, Qld Art Gallery, Qld museum and State library at no cost.
- Walk to Southbank via Kurilpa Bridge (10 minutes) and stay on the river path to experience stunning city views along the way (perfect for the evenings, and very safe).
- If you are feeling energetic, go for a run or a ride (CityCycle is right outside the building) along our famous riverside pathways... there's over 30km of them, all of which connect from the one right outside the building.
- Jump on CityCat or the free CityHopper ferry service from North Quay (just 5 minutes walk from the apartment). There are also two free CityCircle buses a few minutes walk away (Anne and Adelaide St stops).
- Spend a morning at University of Qld... a quick CityCat journey or a leisurely ride on our riverside pathways.
- Grab a Go Card (travel is much cheaper in off-peak times) and from Roma St (5 minutes walk), you can find yourself in any part of Brisbane.
- Feeling lucky - head to Treasury Casino (5 minutes walk) and experience the grand old Treasury building and try your luck on the tables.
- If you win big, head to the shopping district across the road at Queen St Mall. There you will find hundreds of brand-name shops with the more exclusive shopping at the bottom of the mall (and along Edward St).
- Catch a ferry to Lone Pine Sanctuary, where you can get up close and personal with our native fauna.
- Head over to New Farm Park and the Powerhouse. Why not catch the ferry from North Quay, either by CityCat to New Farm park terminal or free CityHopper (10-15 min walk from Sydney St terminal for CityHopper)
Thinking of venturing further afield:
- Gold Coast beaches and fun (drive or catch the train from Roma St)
- Theme parks on the Gold Coast (Movie World, Sea World, Dreamworld, Wet-n-Wild)
- Stradbroke Island and Moreton Island (sand islands with pristine and quiet beaches)
- Sunshine Coast including the hinterland and Noosa (just 1.5 hours away)
- D'Aguilar ranges including Mt Mee and Mt Glorious for amazing views, nature walks and quaint lunches
- Mt Tamborine for wineries, village and views
Public transport:
Roma St transit centre (train and bus) is 5 minutes walk from the complex, and this will take you almost anywhere. Grab a Go-Card and explore this great city.
CityCat ferry terminal is 5 minutes walk from the complex and will take you to many different stops along the river. CityCycle station is located right outside the complex, and once registered, you get free use of bicycles all over Brisbane centre (helmets are mandatory and are available on some bikes).
Free public transport options are available with the City Loop and Spring Hill Loop buses with the Anne and Adelaide St stops 5 minutes from the complex (free loop around the city each way) and the CityHopper ferry, which runs every 30 minutes from the North Quay wharf (5 minutes from the complex).
Arriving by car:
Visitor parking is available on-site when you first arrive. Just park in the designated parking bays on the right as you enter the drive way.
Car parking:
Overnight parking is available next door in the "Care Park" complex. Charges are $25 per night (if you pre-book), and you can leave and enter as many times as you need. This is less than you would pay per night if staying in most of the hotels in the city (typical costs are $30-$40 per night).
